The FredCast on the Flipside

Looks like my guest editorial in the Park Record has reached a few people here in Park City because I just found out that The FredCast is featured in the latest edition of The Flipside, a free arts and entertainment publication.

What is even cooler than being featured in another hometown publication is the fact that they put the FredCast in the same league as Joss Whedon’s new TV show, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog. I watched all three episodes of the show on a recent flight and loved it. Check it out on iTunes.

Coming Soon: Chris McCormack Interview

I’ve just completed a 20-minute interview with Triathlon Champion Chris McCormack. It was a wide-ranging interview that discussed how he got into triathlon, his thoughts on winning Ironman Hawaii in Kona, Lance Armstrong, nutrition, training, doping, shark phobias, and being inducted into the Triathlon Hall of Fame.

The interview will air in a few days on episode 97 of The FredCast. Until then, here is a short video of Chris discussing how he felt on winning in Kona.

Masiguy is on the Mend

I have been remiss in not updating you on the status of my friend and fellow Spokesmen, Tim ‘Masiguy‘ Jackson.

As you can see from this photo, Tim went home from the hospital and he was smiling. Check out his blog and podcast for full details, but suffice it to say that he is home, he is on the mend, he is drinking his beloved coffee, and he will make a full recovery.

For those of you who lambaste me for being a helmet nazi, I suggest you take a look at the following picture of Tim’s helmet after the crash. Had Tim not been wearing his helmet, he just may not have survived the crash. Be smart, wear you helmet. On every ride.

Join me on Velog

I just signed up for a new social networking site called Velog. It’s kind of like Twitter, but this one’s made especially for cyclists. The folks at Velog bill it as the worlds simplest cycling log, and say that it’s for bike commuters, roadies, mountain bikers, cyclocrossers, randonneurs, weekend warriors, and anyone and everyone with a bicycle under their butt. In short, Velog is for you. Er, us!

I just signed up and created a Velog Group for FredCast listeners. Join the group and start letting everyone know what you’re doing on your bike. Log your rides, keep track of your progress over time, and compare with your friends and other FredCast listeners.

I’ve placed a widget on the right side of thefredcast.com (just beneath my Twitter feed) so that you can see what other FredCast listeners are posting on Velog. If you join and use Velog, I’ll keep it on the site.

Please Vote for Carlton

In this political season, here’s one election you can participate in, no matter what your political leanings. My friend and fellow podcaster, Carlton Reid, is up for three North East Digital Awards and he needs your votes! The North East Digital Awards celebrate high-quality innovation, media professionalism and technical excellence in the digital world. The awards are for those who produce their work in the North East of England – where Carlton lives and works.

Go to Carlton’s web site and click the links at the bottom of the blog post to vote for him as Best Podcaster, Best Blogger, and Best Use of Video.

Transalpine Tour Details Now Available!

Dolomite DreamI’ve just finished updating The FredCast Tours web site to include full details on our upcoming Transalpine Adventure (June 25 – July 4, 2008) from Salzburg, Austria to Venice, Italy.

Here’s a taste of what’s in store for you:

Cyclists all over the world know The Dolomites, the Italian portion of the Alps that features so prominently each year in the Giro d’Italia. You’ve seen the photos of the towering spires, the craggy cliffs, and the twisting mountain roads and wondered what it would be like to mount your steed and head through those mountain passes, your legs aching, your lungs burning, and a smile plastered on your sweaty face.

Here’s your chance to prove your mettle on some of cycling’s most famous climbs. A chance to tour some of the most romantic spots in Europe (perhaps the world), and come home with memories to last a lifetime.

Intended for strong cyclists, this van and guide supported trip lasts 10 days and 9 nights, including a two-night stay in Zell am See, Austria, a two-night stay in Corvarra in the heart of The Dolomites, and a two-night stay in Marostica near the famous Bassano del Grappa.

Go to The FredCast Tours web site and check out the full details, itinerary and pricing for this amazing experience and sign up today!
