Coming Soon: Chris McCormack Interview

I’ve just completed a 20-minute interview with Triathlon Champion Chris McCormack. It was a wide-ranging interview that discussed how he got into triathlon, his thoughts on winning Ironman Hawaii in Kona, Lance Armstrong, nutrition, training, doping, shark phobias, and being inducted into the Triathlon Hall of Fame.

The interview will air in a few days on episode 97 of The FredCast. Until then, here is a short video of Chris discussing how he felt on winning in Kona.

Masiguy is on the Mend

I have been remiss in not updating you on the status of my friend and fellow Spokesmen, Tim ‘Masiguy‘ Jackson.

As you can see from this photo, Tim went home from the hospital and he was smiling. Check out his blog and podcast for full details, but suffice it to say that he is home, he is on the mend, he is drinking his beloved coffee, and he will make a full recovery.

For those of you who lambaste me for being a helmet nazi, I suggest you take a look at the following picture of Tim’s helmet after the crash. Had Tim not been wearing his helmet, he just may not have survived the crash. Be smart, wear you helmet. On every ride.

A brief update from The FredCast.

Masiguy Update

He’s on morphine, but he’s still concerned about sending a blog update on his condition. Same old Tim. That’s good news.

The bad news is that he’s going to be healing for a while. He’s on morphine due to the pain of his injuries including fractures of his skull, vertebrae, knee, ribs, and of course, his nearly-severed thumb (now successfully reattached).

Sounds like he’ll be in the hospital for a few more days and then home for lots of healing. He knows how many people are sending their thoughts, love and prayers and he says he really appreciates it.

Get well soon, my friend!

Update on The Masiguy

Thanks to KK, there is an update on Tim Jackson. According to her blog post:

He hit the boards at about 30 mph trying to avoid another rider. He was on a brand new bike, 24 laps into a 25 lap race… He sustained a concussion, a broken rib and nearly severed his right thumb clean off. At the moment he has a blood clot behind his left eye and three cracked vertebrae in his neck – hence the neck brace – which they say he’ll have to live with for the next six weeks. We are waiting for the results of a cat scan to determine the condition of his right knee…

Unbelievable as it sounds they expect to have him standing upright, at least a little bit, later this evening.

Get well soon, my friend!

Worried About Masiguy

Donna Tocci from Kryptonite just wrote an email to tell me that our friend and fellow Spokesmen, Tim Jackson (aka Masiguy), was injured pretty seriously at the velodrome last night according to an account on the Blue Squirrel blog today. Here’s what he had to say:

unfortunately i have some bad news to report concerning one of our star riders, tim, aka masiguy, action jackson, maggie. apparently a total nob slowed down in front of him at the SD velodrome last night and tim tried to go high and ended up hitting the boards at 30mph +. he sustained a concussion [he was out for 5 minutes], broken ribs, a few fractured neck bones and a mangled thumb that will have surgery done on it today. please keep tim in your prays and i will update his legions of fans here as soon as i know more.

I’ll be keeping tabs on this too and will keep you updated. In the meantime, I hope you’ll all send your thoughts and prayers out to Tim. I am.
