  1. Great podcasting from Interbike, David! I love listening to your show while I ride. I just donated to your MS ride. Your PSA was very touching. Best to your wife and family.

  2. PolarPak… Am I the only person ever to blow air into a ‘normal’ drink bladder to pressurise it? Think I should have copyright’d the idea. 🙁

So why don’t road riders use ‘paks?? They work perfectly.. After all didn’t the UCI ban them for giving an aerodynamic advantage? 😉

  3. Is the Oxy2Go a joke? Now I’m not a doctor but AFAIK, unless it increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in your blood during exercise for a sustained amount of time, you’re better off saving some money, weight and just taking a few deep breaths. The website only has copy that tries to scare you about chronic oxygen deprived states – which is great if you’re spending the rest of your life in an ICU but you’re an athlete so most of that means nothing. They need to do a stress test and do arterial blood gasses (ABG’s) and/or measure O2 saturation with a simple pulse oximeter and they’ll see that 1 shot of inhaled oxygen in a time when the body is trying to blow off CO2 from exercise and respiratory acidosis is not going to do anything.

    Oh wait – I AM a doctor… 🙂

  4. What a great comment. I’ve asked the Oxy2Go folks to send me some samples for a review on the show. So far, no response.

Since you are a doctor, I wonder if you can tell me this: Will a shot of oxygen make you FEEL better (i.e. a temporary kind of euphoria)? Is it possible that the oxygen just makes you feel better without giving you any kind of actual performance benefit.

By the way, I saw at least two such oxygen shot products at Interbike this year.
