Show #1
Dec 13th, 2005 | By Fredcaster | Category: PodcastsHello fellow Freds! The first episode of The FredCast is finally available!
Phew! That was more work than I expected. I bought and returned three microphones and two mixers, ran into GarageBand’s dreaded 999 measure limitation, lost the show notes (after completing them in their entirety), stayed up way too late (4:00 a.m.), butchered my RSS feed and xml files more times than I care to admit, and finally got everything configured the way I want. I know the sound needs some work, but I promise things will get better. I just hope this all gets easier from this point forward.
You can listen to the show directly by clicking here, you can subscribe to it in iTunes, or you can use the RSS feed in whatever pod catching client you use.
Enjoy the show and don’t forget to send me your feedback!
Hello David!
I downloaded your first podcast and listened last night. I found your site off the Yahoo Trainer site.
I found the podcast interesting. I would assume you are looking for a constructive critique. Overall, not too bad. I thought it was a bit long and that you really over did the Forerunner critique. But…that’s just one person’s opinion. I liked the insight into the Racing in Europe and how Basso and Urlich are approaching this coming season. Hopefully in future podcasts there will be information pertaining to off the rack bikes and a what I would call the “common rider”. We are not all “Freds” and we are not all world class races. Most bike riders are just regular “Joes” who ride for fitness and enjoyment. I’m sure some of the tech talk is going way over the heads of most. But…again….it’s just one opinion.
Lastly, how about some longer music clips or even separate mp3 files on your website of some good riding music.
I wish you luck as you proceed and I’ll check back for future podcasts.

David,
I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the first podcast. I have to admit that I’m not even cool enough to be considered a Fred, but I’ll be a lifelong listener nevertheless.
Inspired by your podcast, I just told Santa he better put a Garmin Forerunner 301 under my Christmas tree this year! We’ll see what happens.
Thanks for the enjoyable listen.
John
Hey Dave,
I just finished listening to your first podcast and I enjoyed it.
CWJ did have good ideas and yes maybe the Forerunner section was a little long but I appreciated it very much. I recently heard about this gadget and I guess you would have to say I’m a tech geek too, or at least my boyfriend would say so.
Anyway, I was very interested in the Forerunner and didn’t get all the info I would have like to had before spending that much money. So thank you for the time you did put into your review. I believe I would get more out of the cycling version too.
I don’t like heartrate straps so I’m really glad to know you have to wear it so low. I don’t think I would use that part purely because of discomfort.
As far as show ideas, as far as bikes go, I’m more like John a regular Joe. I have a basic entry level road bike, dont’ know anything about maintenance except to keep the chain lubed so I would love to hear maintenance tips.
Have a good day,
Susan
The only complaint that I have is that the volume was VERY low. Some of it was ok, but I listen in the car and I had to turn the volume ALL the way up. I can always turn it down, but I can’t turn it up any farther. Please make it louder so we can hear it over the ambiant noise.
Other than that, I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series and the podcasts of the future.
Thanks for your effort and dedicated work.
Mark
