Saddle up for 2011, because here comes the first FredCast Cycling Podcast of 2011! This week’s episode of The FredCast features information on upcoming screenings of Phil Keoghan’s The Ride movie, the opening of registration for Cycle Oregon 2011, and my preparations for the 2011 Maratona dles Dolimites. Lots of news this week including Eight Italian cyclists killed by an impaired driver, product recalls from Felt, Giant, FSA, Redline and Salsa, Oregon Considering Bike Trailer Ban for Under 6 Year Olds, Cycling and Health, and much more! In pro news, the 2011 season has begun and we have lots of news about races, teams and riders.
In the news this week: Eight Italian Cyclists Killed in ‘Massacre’, Driver in Vail hit-and-run Sentenced, Product Recalls from Felt, Giant, Full Speed Ahead, Redline, and Sales Cycles. Also in the news, Google Maps Bicycle Directions Now Available in Canada, Expensive Bike Ad on Online Trading Site Gumtree Lures Cyclists Into Trap, Ikea Gives Bikes to All 12,400 US Employees, Long Beach, California, Reexamining Mandatory Bicycle Registration, State Funds Used to Close the Gap in Great Allegheny Passage Trail, Oregon Considering Bike Trailer Ban for Under 6 Year Olds, Cycling and Health, and much more!
In professional cycling news, it’s time for the Santos Tour Down Under, news about Team Leopard-Trek and Radio Shack, a Spanish Mountain Biker Found Dead, Contador Investigation Keeps Passing Back and Forth, Robbie McEwen Saves Fellow Sailors, Oscar Pereiro Switches from Cycling to Soccer, and Lance Armstrong’s Twitter Alter Ego.
The “Big 4” that Juan Pelota idolized is not the four major sports in the US. He’s referring to triathlon stars. From http://triathlete-europe.competitor.com/2010/04/29/making-big-scott-allen-tinley-molina/ :
“Dave Scott, Mark Allen, Scott Tinley and Scott Molina. Four names – The Big Four – that were instrumental in turning Ironman into the sport that it is today. Between 1982 and 1987 these four me won pretty much everything there was going, cementing their place in triathlon history.”
It makes more sense with the whole Pelota character and also matches up better with Armstrong’s childhood (that is, the portions he related in his books).
Ah! That makes much more sense. Thanks for cluing me in. I’m not much of a triathlon follower.
hello
Frist be sure that I like very much what you are doing but why being darker and darker. Sure drama keep people listening nowadays but cycling is not all or mainly about accidents and death. You should put the events in perspective and even if I do agree with you on road safety and so on, I do not think that cycling is a life or death activity.
We are taking much more risks in your daily life with less control on the out come.
We are human being living in modern societies with plus and minus. Some minus are truly unacceptable, let’s talk about food, pollution, … stress, home accident…
So cycling is a moment of relief and must stay like that.
thank you
You lost to a medical podcast, so it was almost as if you were trying to offer more medical news with your extended “Cycling and Health” segment. I just thought it was kinda funny. Maybe next year, huh David? LOL
